Three Journalists undertook familiarization visit to Bangladesh
 

Mr. Kazuhiro Shimamura, Senior Economic Editor of Kyodo News, Ms. Aoki Sachiko, Staff Correspondent of Yomiuri Shimbun and Mr. Yuji Kuronuma, The Mumbai Bureau Chief of NIKKEI visited Bangladesh to participate in the "Visit Bangladesh" program organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 8-14 April 2012. The journalists expressed to the Embassy their profound gratitude for arranging their program, while expressing their appreciation for the buoyant economic stride of Bangladesh as well as the immense potential of Bangladesh in the areas of tourism, energy, natural resources, growth of private sectors and socio-economic development.

Embassy observes Pohela Boishakh
 

The Mission observed the Pohela Boishakh ('পহেলা বৈশাখ') in a befitting manner at the Embassy on 14 April 2012 in the evening. The program was attended by the expatriate members of the Bangladesh community and their family members, local Japanese friends, embassy officials and their family members and visiting eminent personalities from Bangladesh. The days program started with the greetings of Bangla New Year and a short deliberation on the occasion from Charge d' Affaries, a.i. Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder. It was followed by an enthralling cultural program and a dinner served with traditional fish hilsha and 'khichuri'.

In the afternoon, the CDA, a.i. attended the Boishakhi Mela Festival organized by the Bangladesh Community in the Ikebukuro Park as the Chief Guest, while two Japanese MPs, Mayor of Toshima-Ku and other dignitaries, the “Friends of Bangladesh”, Mr. Osamu Hayakawa and Mr. Takamasa Suzuki attended the program as Special Guests. The “Friends of Bangladesh” were honoured with a bouquet of flower, as they deliberated on their memorable experience in Bangladesh while being conferred the 'State Honour' for their invaluable contribution during the war of liberation in 1971. Later, the expatriate community members collectively donated JPY 500,000 to the Mayor of Toshima-Ku, as donation for the victims of the Tohoku disaster. The day-long Boishakhi Mela Festival, which also embodies the curry festival attracted a huge Japanese crowd and passers-by, in addition to a huge number of the expatriate nationals.

Four distinguished Japanese nationals receive State Honour for invaluable roles in 1971
 

Professor Tsuyoshi Nara, the former Professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and one of the founders of the Modern Language Institute at Dhaka University, Mr. Osamu Hayakawa (son of founding President of the Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group, Late Mr. Takashi Hayakawa), Mrs. Kuniko Usui (wife of Late journalist Mr. Naoaki Usui) and Mr. Takamasa Suzuki, a Japanese entrepreneur visited Bangladesh from 24-28 March 2012. During the visit, Professor Tsuyoshi Nara, Mr. Takamasa Suzuki and Mr. Osamu Hayakawa on behalf of his late father and Mrs. Kunio Usui on behalf of her late husband, received 'State Honour' from the President of Bangladesh on 27 March 2012, for their invaluable contribution in 1971 respectively, to support the liberation war. Upon their return, the recipients of the State Honour, expressed their gratitude to the Embassy and through the Embassy to the Government of Bangladesh for arranging their program itinerary. They further pledged their commitments towards achieving a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

Embassy observes 41th Anniversary of Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations and 41st Great Independence and National Day at Sheraton Miyako
 

The Embassy observed the 41st Great Independence and National Day of Bangladesh in a befitting manner. The day's program started in the morning with hoisting the National Flag at the Embassy premises, by Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder, Charge d' Affaires, a.i. followed by the National Anthem and prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of martyred freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation.

In the noon, the Embassy hosted a Reception Luncheon to commemorate the Independence and National Day as well as the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Bangladesh and Japan. The Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kazuyuki Hamada attended the occasion as the Guest of Honour from Japan side and Mr. Golam Maula Rony, MP acted as the Guest of Honour, from Bangladesh side. The event was also graced by as many as 13 Members of Parliament, high government officials, foreign diplomats, intelligentsia and academia, media personalities and professionals and businessmen from Japan as well as a large cross-section of Bangladesh nationals.

In the evening, Embassy organized a discussion and cultural program on this auspicious occasion. Mr. Golam Maula Rony, MP was the Chief Guest of the program. He urged the fellow community members not to engage in maligning each other, while remaining in united posture to safeguard the national interest and promote better image of Bangladesh in Japan. He also reiterated the importance to learn from the liberation war and remain united under the ideals of liberation war as envisioned by the Father of the Nation to transform Bangladesh into the cherished 'Sonar Bangla'.

The Embassy observes Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day
 

The Embassy observed the 92nd Birthday of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day on 17 March 2012 in a befitting and solemn manner. The program marking this auspicious day was held at 1830 hours in the Chancery, with Mr. Osamu Otsubo, President of the Japan Bangladesh Society as the Guest of Honour, while a cross-section Japanese and foreign noted personality and eminent Bangladesh Community members attended the event.

The program started with one-minute silence to pay homage to the lost and missing lives of last year's tsunami in Japan, followed by the national anthem and laying of floral wreath to the portrait of the Father of the Nation by the Embassy led by the Charge d' Affaires a.i. of the Embassy, Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder. Messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out followed by the screening of the documentary film (Chiro Omlan Smriti) "চির অম্লান স্মৃতি" on the lives of the martyred family members of the Father of the Nation. An open discussion followed where discussants highlighted the visionary leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the emergence of an independent land for the Bangalees. The extra-ordinary fortitude and far-sightedness with which Bangabandhu guided the Bangalee nation in all phases of its unprecedented struggle prior to the independence, has eventually culminated into a Bangalee nation for the first time in the world map, as many observed. They also delineated the love of Bangabandhu for the children, whom he always dreamt as the future suns of the soil of his "Sonar Bangla" the Golden Bengal. Mr. Osamu Otsubo, President of the Japan Bangladesh Society, who himself has been an ardent admirer of Bangabandhu, unveiled his new sculpture of Bangabandhu framed to hold the epic address of March 7, 1971. Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder, the Charge d' Affaires, a.i. in his concluding speech, highlighted the significance of the day and attributed it to the cause and emancipation of Bangalee nation. He also stressed on the importance to realize the ideals of the Father of Nation to attain the 'Golden Bengal', the cherished dream of Bangabandhu. The program was concluded by holding a cultural program organized by the "Uttoron Cultural Group", followed by a dinner served with traditional Bengali cuisine and drinks.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo observed the 60th Great Language Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day in a solemn and befitting manner. The day's program started with the laying of floral wreaths by the Embassy and expatriate Bangladesh community groups at the 'Shaheed Minar' in Ikebukuro Park amid the presence of Deputy Mayor of Toshima-Ku, Mr. Masahiko Mizushima. Later at the Embassy premises, Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder, Charge d' Affaires, a.i. hoisted the national flag at half-mast followed by prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of the language martyrs.

Opening remarks by TUFS Vice-President:

Inclusion of Bengali Affairs Study in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

In the evening, the Embassy of Bangladesh and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) jointly observed the august occasion of 21 February. At the onset, one minute silence was observed in memory of those who led the language movement. Mr. Nobuo Tomimori, Vice-President of the University made gracious start of the evening by delivering his opening speech. He officially declared that Tokyo University of Foreign Studies would inaugurate the inclusion of a Bengali Affairs department in the University from April 2012. He paid valiant tribute to the martyrdom for language in Bangladesh in 1952 and expressed hope that all small nation state would hold out their linguistic heritage and culture prominently following this glorious example.

Panel Discussion on International Mother Language and Great Martyr's Day

In the session that followed the reading out of messages from President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, a panel discussion was held with Professor Tsuyoshi Nara as the key note speaker. Professor Nara rightly attributed the language movement to be the first building block for Bangladesh's independence. He stressed the need for analytical research between Japanese and Bengali language, while stressing the need to promote multi-lingual diversity among comity of nations. He also termed the 1952's language movement an ever-lasting milestone for the mankind. Professor Kyoko Niwa of the Bengali Affairs department of the Tokyo University of Foreign Study in her speech discussed the significance of mother tongue and hailed the unique language movement in Bangladesh. Mr. Kazuhiro Watanabe, Chief of NHK's Bangla Affairs division discussed on the beauty and strength of Bangla language and its culture and advised for further research and paying attention to Bengali language by the new generation. Mr. Manjurul Haque, Executive Member and Former President of Foreign Correspondent Club of Japan, later in his speech highlighted on the importance of extending hands to the languages in transition and transgression so as to reinstate the linguistic diversity in the world. In the concluding remarks, Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder, Charge d' Affaires highlighted the bondage between mother and children that culminates into the strength of any mother language. He also paid rich tribute to the language martyr's as well as the political leadership and guidance by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the culmination of attaining Bangla as the state language. The CDA also expressed profound gratitude to the TUFS authority for opening the Bengali Affairs study department in their century's old, eminent seat of foreign affairs and language studies.

Documentary on "My Mother Tongue" screened followed by Cultural Program

After the panel discussion, the audience witnessed a documentary film titled "My Mother Tongue" followed by an instrumental music called "KOTO" performance by Japanese students from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and cultural presentation by Uttoron Cultural group.

The program was attended by host Foreign Ministry officials, diplomats, former Japanese Ambassadors (to Bangladesh), Bangla connoisseurs from among Japanese intelligentsia, faculty members and students from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, as well as a cross section of expatriate nationals. The Kyodo News and Ashahi Shimbun representatives also attended the program to cover the event in their reputed news media.

Embassy observes 40th Anniversary of Victory Day
 

The 40th Victory Day of Bangladesh was observed in the Embassy with due solemnity and appropriate fervor. The day's program was observed by hoisting the national flag at the embassy premises by the Charge d' Affaires, a.i. Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder in the morning, followed by prayers for the salvation of the departed souls of the Architect of the Independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the freedom fighters and for the continued peace, progress and unity of Bangladesh.

In the evening, the Victory Day program was observed with the State Minister for Science & Technology, Architect Yeafesh Osman as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Hajime Ishii and Mr. Akira Ishii from the ruling DPJ and Members of the House of Representatives graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. The Victory Day ceremony was also attended by high officials from host Foreign Ministry, diplomats from India, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Nepal, eminent personalities from Japan and a cross section of the Bangladesh community. The speakers paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his visionary leadership in the war of liberation, while they hailed the glorious roles of the valiant freedom fighters during the liberation war. They stressed the importance to implement the trial of perpetrators of genocide and war crimes during liberation war and urged the countrymen to realize the dreams to build a "Sonar Bangla" as envisioned by the Father of the Nation.

Mr. Hajime Ishii, Vice-President of Japan Bangladesh Parliamentary League and a senior ruling party leader, read out a message from former Prime Minister Mr. Taro Aso, President of the Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary League, on the occasion. Mr. Akira Ishii, a ruling party MP, also spoke on the significance of this day, giving historical anecdotes when the Father of the Nation visited Japan in 1973 and had fruitful bilateral talks with the then Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Tanaka, which cemented the foundation of Bangladesh-Japan bilateral relations.

The State Minister for Science and Technology, Architect Yeafesh Osman, stressed on upholding the morals and historical significance emanating from the liberation war and urged the young generation to embrace the ideals and visionary goals as envisioned by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to realize a prosperous Bangladesh. The program was chaired by the Charge d' Affaires a.i. Dr. Jiban Ranjan Majumder.

On the following day, the Embassy held a Victory Day reception which was graced by high Japanese government officials including the JICA Vice-President Mr. Hiroyo Sasaki, JBCCEC President Mr. Yoshio Akamatsu, top executives from TORAY, ITOCHU and NTT Docomo, bankers from leading MIZUHO and MFUJ, journalists from NHK as well as host Japanese government officials and diplomats from local Embassies.

International Migrants' Day 2011
 
International Migrants' Day 2011In observance of the International Migrants Day on 18th December the Bangladesh Embassy, Tokyo, organised a programme at the conference Hall of the Embassy. The community of Bangladesh exchanged their views and promotional initiatives in socio-cultural and economic aspects in Japan. A renowned cultural group of the community, Uttoron, performed cultural programme to celebrate the day. The Programme was chaired by the Charge d' Affairs of the Embassy Dr Jibon Ranjan Majumder. Mr Kazuhiro Watanabe, Senior Producer of Japan Broadcasting Cooperation graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the pogramme.

Observance of Victory Day on 16 December 2011

 The Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Tokyo, Japan, is going to observe the Victory Day of Bangladesh in a befitting manner on 16 December 2011 (Friday). The day’s programmes include:  

 

09.00 hrs - Official hoisting of the National Flag at the Chancery and offering of special Munajat seeking Divine blessings for the departed souls of the valiant Martyrs as well as for the continued peace, progress and happiness of the country;  

 

17.30 hrs :-   a)      At the outset of the programme, National  Anthem will be played and will remain silent for one minute in the memory of valiant martyrs during the war of independence and special munajat will be offered seeking divine blessings for the departed souls and for the continued peace and progress of the country.

 

b)      Messages from the Hon'ble President, Hon'ble Prime Minister and Hon'ble Foreign Minister on the occasion of the Victory Day will be read out;

 

c)      Video projection on glorious memory of war of independence;

 

d)      Discussion meeting on the significance of the liberation war.   

 

All distinguished members of Bangladesh community in Japan are cordially invited to attend the afore-mentioned programmes.

A Labour Wing has been opened at the Embassy

 

 

A Labour Wing has been opened at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan. 

 

Ms. Baby Rani Karmakar has been posted as First Secretary (Labour) by the

Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. 

 

 

With her joining on 17th October 2011, the wing has started its functions at the  Embassy. 

 

The major functions of the Labour Wing in the broad categories are: 

  • Ensuring welfare of Bangladeshi nationals working in Japan; and
  • Promotion of employment of Bangladeshi manpower in Japan.
